The performance of a WDM star network based on reservation MAC protocols can be improved by using optical fiber delay-lines ( FDLs) as optical buffers at the receivers.

The measured time delay responses are nearly linear with the wavelength spacing between optical carriers as well as the lengths of FDLs, which agrees well with the theoretical analysis.
